Artist Statement, excerpt:
I work primarily in two styles of painting. My abstract landscape series captures the powerful complexions of nature; the compositions are largely explorations of style and color and are inspired, at least somewhat, by early Asian art. My portrait studies, however, address the heart of who I am, as I generally focus on subjects that I find to have historical, political, social, and/or cultural significance. Most of these works are executed with a strong intention to bring awareness to the subject's life, death, mission, or their contribution to society. My subjects are not always well known, exemplifying the fact that ordinary people make an imprint on our culture and the lives in which we touch. "Projects Under Construction" - a portrait study currently under development - examines the abbreviated lives of a number of political activists, artists, and ordinary civilians who either sacrificed, or otherwise lost, their lives in the process of social change. www.OmoMishaGallery.com
